Akita Kantō Festival

From to 15:00 - 22:30

This festival is held every year from August 3 – 6 in order to pray for a good harvest. Dozens of lanterns are put together at the top of bamboo poles, which people then carry by balancing the poles on their forehead, waist, shoulder, or other body parts. It is an event designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property, and it is regarded as one of the Northeastern Three Great Festivals alongside the Nebuta Festival in Aomori and the Tanabata Festival in Sendai.
