In all of Japan, Takabe shrine is the only shrine dedicated to a “God of Cooking”. The main highlight is a knife demonstration of cutting red snapper, carp and mana bonito without touching any of it with their hands, but by using only kitchen knife and chopsticks. The performance is based on an old Japanese style, and mastering it requires incredible skill. It is a solemn ceremony to convey how the tradition of Japanese cuisine has been carried to present times. It is only performed 3 times a year.
