This festival is held every year in July on the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday that are the closest to July 7, 8, and 9. This is a summer festival held by the “Narita Yama Gion Association” in order to pray for grain richness, great honor and accomplishments. The people of the town of Narita-san all carry out this event together, in a tradition of about 300 years. During the daytime, staggering portable shrines are paraded through the city, but they are completely transformed when they are lit up by lanterns at night. The festival also features hundreds of pop-up stalls and food vendors that can be enjoyed both day and night.
