Sumidagawa Fireworks Festival

19:00 - 20:30

This grand fireworks festival is held every year on the last Saturday of July. The event serves as a memorial for the people who were the victims of the great famine and epidemic of the Edo era, as well as prays for evasion of bad diseases. It is said that the festival was first held in the Sumidagawa River to honor a diety of water. Today, it is counted as Tokyo’s second biggest fireworks festival, as about 20,000 fireworks are launched.
