Takisanji Temple Ogre Festival

13:00 - 20:00

This festival is held every year on the Saturday closest to the 7th day of the Lunar calendar, which varies from year-to-year, but is typically in mid-February. This is a festival that has lasted 800 years, as it originated in the Kamakura period. Praying for peace throughout the land and for bountiful crops, this is a fire festival that puts an end to the devil. Participants bring more than 30 huge torches to the main hall, and dancers perform demon dances while accompanied by bells and music.
