Waraikō

11:00

This festival is held every year on the first Sunday in December. The name of this Waraiko festival comes from the Japanese word “warau”, meaning “to laugh”. This festival started in the Kamakura period. The most noteable highlight of this festival is the rare ritual of participants offering laughter to the gods by laughing 3 times. It is a unique local festival, and perhaps the only of its kind in all of Japan.
